Answer the call of the wild at the NY Sportsman’s Expo
2012-01-25
During these cold winter months it can be difficult to get in touch with the great outdoors, but the New York Sportsman's Expo at the New York State Fairgrounds makes it easy with a rock climbing wall, an archery range, a catch and release trout pond, and more than 200 vendors of the latest essentials for hunters or outdoor enthusiasts.
The New York Sportsman's Expo is Syracuse's and Central New York's premier Sportsman Expo, and begins this Friday, Jan. 27, through Sunday, Jan. 29, in the Center of Progress Building.
New this year, don't miss celebrity guests such as whitetail fanatic Tim Andrus who has been featured on the Outdoor Channel and ESPN, Haley and G. O. Heath of the Sportsman Channel's "Family Traditions with Haley Heath" and star of ESPN2's "Redfield Redzone with Laura Francese" and Buffalo Jill, Laura Francese.
Though this event is geared towards sportsmen and sportswomen, there is something for everyone with a wide variety of family friendly attractions. These include an archery range provided by AJ's Archery, rock wall challenge presented by the U.S. Army, catch and release trout pond, and animal demonstrations provided by Wildlife Defenders including Bridget the African Crested Porcupine who recently appeared in "We Bought a Zoo."
The show will run from noon to 9 p.m. on Friday; from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $9 for adult, $7 for seniors 65 and older, $4 for children age 6 through 12, and free for children 5 and younger. Military discount is $6 with proper ID.
